1. By birth. At birth, if the parents or one of the parents are Cypriot citizens, the child automatically acquires citizenship. In addition, persons born abroad, from at least one Cypriot parent, can become citizens of the country.

Basic Requirements

To applicants for citizenship — Non-residents of Cyprus are subject to the following requirements:

1. In some cases, residence in the country for 7 years is mandatory.
2. Having permanent residence in Cyprus for one year prior to applying for citizenship.
3. No criminal record.

How to apply for a Cyprus passport?

The application, along with a package of documents, is submitted to the embassy or consulate by a person personally, since it is necessary to provide biometric information.

 The documents required for obtaining Cypriot citizenship include:

• completed application form (in English);
• valid passport;
• certificate of no criminal record;
• CV (brief description of life, professional activity in English), certified by the personal signature of the applicant;
• birth certificate;
• marriage certificate.

For non-EU residents, obtaining Cypriot citizenship through investment — a good alternative to the standard naturalization procedure. 

An individual can become a citizen of Cyprus by investing in the country's economy, real estate or a private company. Since March 2014, the Council of Ministers has decided to allow non-Cypriots to become citizens of the country, subject to certain conditions. 

These conditions may be met either by an individual or by a company in which such individual is a shareholder and/or an executive director.
